Stonehenge Paper Sheets were introduced in 1974 as a high-quality, American-made alternative to expensive European mouldmade papers. Originally created for printmakers, Stonehenge has become a staple for artists of all disciplines thanks to its exceptional surface, versatility, and durability.
Made from 100% cotton with no optical brighteners, Stonehenge sheets are acid-free, pH neutral, and buffered with calcium carbonate for superior archival performance. The surface has a soft, toothy texture that performs beautifully with colored pencil, ink, pastel, and light watercolor washes, while maintaining exceptional dimensional stability—ideal for printmaking processes like silkscreen, relief, intaglio, and lithography.
Stonehenge is beloved by members of the Colored Pencil Society of America for its ability to hold many layers of wax- or oil-based pencils without wax bloom or surface breakdown. It can also handle up to 50–75 individual silkscreen colors with precise registration.
Each sheet has 2 deckled edges (unless otherwise noted) and is made without chlorine or OBAs (optical brightening agents), ensuring true archival integrity and a premium tactile feel.
